I am commanded by the Lords Commissioners of the

Admiralty to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the

13315/1900. 8th May 1900, transmitting copies of a letter from the

Governor and of a Memo. from the Director of Public Works

relative to the replacement of the Murray Pier and the

Victoria Yacht Club, rendered necessary by the proposed

extension of the Naval Yard at Hong Kong, and in reply thereto

I am to acquaint you, for the information of the Secretary

of State, that My Lords agree to the proposals contained

therein.

The extension of the present Murray Pier to form a

new site for the Victoria Yacht Club will be carried out by

the Admiralty in connection with the Dockyard Extension Works;

but it is considered preferable that the rebuilding of the

Yacht Club itself should be carried out, either by the Club

or by the Colonial Authorities, the Admiralty paying a lump

sum, as in the case of the New Murray Pier.

I am to ask therefore, that the Secretary of State

will cause an estimate to be obtained of the cost of reinstating

the Yacht Club, such estimate being agreed to by the

Admiralty Local Officers as fair and reasonable, and

forwarded to Their Lordships for consideration.

It is assumed that on completion of the New Yacht

Club, the site of the existing Club will become Admiralty Ender Secretary of State,

COLONIAL OFFICE,

property.

London, S.W.
